SW Calgary - Silverado 001

Many Calgary homes are now being built with greater density so therefore on smaller lots. This southwest property in Silverado is a good example. This homeowner is a gardener and wanted lots of colorful plants and a vegetable garden. As the backyard faces east, having the option of getting out into the afternoon sun was a priority as well.

We expanded from the builder supplied deck out to a lawn leading to a pergola with a patio that acts as a focal point and a destination to draw the visitor out into the garden. This area has shade for part of the day but catches the afternoon sun so it allows the homeowners to move around thru the garden for sun or shade as they wish. The pergola is also equipped with a portable swing seat but they can also be a good place to hang a hammock. The vegetable garden made from stack-stone blocks makes use of a space next to the deck and is a very productive garden space.
