Naturopathic Doctor & Educator

Introduction Paragraph

Dr. Joe Klassen started his practice at Fish Creek Naturopathic Medicine in 2006.  He is a registered Naturopathic Doctor with College of Naturopathic Doctors of Alberta.  He graduated from Bastyr University of Naturopathic Medicine in Seattle, WA in 2005.  The comprehensive ND program includes the dissection anatomy, physiology, pathology that align with similar MD programs, plus the focus on botanical medicine, physical medicine, hydrotherapy, lab testing, nutrition and other natural healing modalities.  In addition, he is a Board Certified Colon Hydrotherapy Instructor and practitioner

Prior to Naturopathic Medicine, Dr. Klassen was a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.  After starting a career in the stressful world of Fortune 500 companies, he decided to make a radical change and enter the field of natural health.  This experience has given him a real–world perspective on health challenges in our community, and a realistic approach to health when relating to patients with challenging work and home demands.

Dr. Klassen has a special interest in the naturopathic principle of “Docere” or “Doctor as Teacher”.  Accordingly, he teaches anatomy & physiology, cellular biology and pathology at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Calgary. In addition, he does wellness consulting and health education for corporations and community organizations of many types.  He sometimes offers educational events to the general public at local health food stores, community associations and webinars on topics such as hormones, stress, allergies, digestive dysfunction, children’s health, fertility and many other topics.  As mentioned, he is able to train new colonhydrotherapists in our clinic with his certification as an instructor with the International Association of Colonhydrotherapists (I-ACT).  He also now educates Naturopathic Doctors and functional medicine medical doctors on Laboratory Testing as the National Clinical Specialist for Rocky Mountain Analytical, a division of LifeLabs.

Dr. Klassen is involved in the community in many ways.  He has been involved with the Friends of Fish Creek Provincial Park Society with many projects.  He is an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Calgary Heritage Park and is involved in many charitable projects through their organization.  He is the Treasurer on the CNDA council.  In the community he is active in promoting local, sustainable family businesses.  He enjoys many outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking and skiing and loves to travel to new places.

“Our goal is to address each patient as an individual and use the intelligent healing power of nature to help the patient to achieve their optimal health.” – Dr. Joe Klassen
